Veggie Wonder Toasts: A crispy snack to fill the appetite gaps

Loved by almost everyone, toasts are the bread-based snacks with assorted toppings that will make you feel good and fill those appetite gaps. Here’s a healthy and filling toast recipe by Dr. Kaviraj Khialani which will keep your energy levels up while satisfying your taste buds.


Sliced bread- 4-6 slices of white/brown bread

Butter/cream cheese- 2 tsp to apply on the bread

For the masala topping :

Onion- ½ chopped

Tomato- ½ chopped

Green chili- 1 chopped

Coriander leaves- 1 tbsp. chopped

Boiled mashed potato- 1 no.

Salt and pepper to taste

Chat masala- ¼ tsp

Lime juice-1 tsp

Salt and pepper to taste

Schezuan chutney- 1 tbsp

Tomato ketchup-1 tbsp

Cheese- 2-3 tbsp. grated

Sliced olives- 4-5 nos. for garnish.

To serve with: Chutney/dips/ketchup/mayonnaise


1. Prepare all the ingredients for the recipe.

2. In a mixing bowl combine together the ingredients for the masala topping.

3. Apply butter/cream cheese on the bread slices and top it up with the masala mix, top with little grated cheese and sprinkle with white sesame seeds (til) and place in the oven or use a non-stick tava for toasting.

4. Cut into fingers/triangles/squares and serve.

Chefs Variations:

The same toasts can be made with toppings like chopped tandoori chicken, sliced seekh kababs, boiled chopped eggs with cheese and colorful capsicums, boiled corn. Also use peanut butter as a spread for the toast or try pesto chutney with little butter as a spread.
