Amazon India has announced plans to start manufacturing Amazon Fire TV sticks and other electronics products in the country, in partnership with Foxconn-owned Cloud Network Technology.
The announcement came after Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad held a virtual meeting with Amazon’s Global Senior Vice President and Country Head for India Amit Agarwal on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, India is an attractive investment destination and is poised to become a major player in the global supply chain in the electronics and IT products industry. He added that the government’s decision to launch Production- Linked Incentive Scheme has received a tremendous response globally.
Amazon’s decision to set up a manufacturing facility in Chennai is in line with India’s self-reliant (Atmanirbhar Bharat) campaign as it will enhance domestic production capacities and create many jobs, Prasad added. The manufacturing programme, which is likely to start later this year, will be able to produce hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year, catering to the demands of customers in India, said the media reports.
